History of the Place The building of the Italian Cultural Institute, which the Italian State is the owner, was built as a hospital in the district of Mala Strana at the beginning of the 1600 by the Italian Congregation of Prague, an important religious-welfare organization founded in 1575 from the large Italian colony that lived in the city since the Renaissance period. In the 1700 it was also an orphanage turned into silk factory and in the 1900 became the Institute of Culture.The Baroque chapel currently used as exhibition space, it is a part of this Palace.Purpuses and activitiesThe Italian Cultural Institute is an ideal place for meeting and dialogue for intellectuals, artists and cultural professionals but also for ordinary citizens, Italian and foreign, who wish to establish or maintain the relationship with Italy.
