(Dis)locating the body | Personal exhibition by Christina Georgiou
Opening & Live Performance: Thursday 8th November 2012 at 18:30
Exhibition of Photographic works: 8th – 17th November 2012
(Dis)locating the body is an art project presented through a photographic series of site-specific actions. In these series live performances have been devised for the photographic camera in order to explore site-specificity while using live art as a site-responsive means. By exploring the intersections between visual and performance art, the body creates site-specific interventions as an endeavor to build visual and physical dialogues with the site and therefore to construct a psychophysical relationship between the body and geography. Thus the photographic works present the body within the photographic frame, always in relation with the site and while being the fundamental element of the artwork.
The chosen sites are seascapes located in the south part of the island of Cyprus, the native country of the artist Christina Georgiou.
A Live Performance will be realized at the Opening of the exhibition on Thursday 8th November 2012, where the artist will consider the space of the gallery as part of the live action and will use it as a performative component. Through a similar way as it is portrayed in the still images, the body will become part of the space and the space part of the performance, but in this time through a live situation experienced by the public.
