Swatch loves art and believes that artists, with their messages, freedom, energy and focus, contribute to making the world a better place. Working closely together for more than 30 years, Swatch and artists have created more than 100 amazing Swatch Art Specials. Today the Swatch & Art love story has taken on a new dimension with the brand’s artist-in-residence program at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel, in Shanghai.
The Swatch Art Peace Hotel is a focal point of contemporary art in China’s most vibrant and fascinating city. Gifted artists from a broad range of creative disciplines are invited by Swatch to live and work in the 18 workshop-apartments in the historic landmark on the Bund at Nanjing Road. An invitation to stay as an artist-in-residence at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel represents a high point in any artist’s career. The residency offers a unique opportunity to meet other artists on a daily basis, to exchange ideas and to work together in an extraordinary creative environment.
The unique residency program also gives resident artists the opportunity to explore Chinese culture from a very privileged perspective. More than 150 artists from all over the world have lived and worked in the workshops and studios on the hotel’s 2nd and 3rd floors. Exchanges and interactions among the residents are always very lively, and many inspirational events have taken place. “Open studio” events encourage communication among artists, the management team, the local art community and the public. The diversity of disciplines and nationalities continues to grow and the “traces” left by artists include paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, video and sound art.
For Arte Laguna, Swatch is offering a three-to-six-month stay at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai: A unique possibility for an emerging artist to develop his or her talent and to meet other artists from all over the world.
