14.03.2013 | THE WINNERS OF THE ART RESIDENCIES

Venice, 14 March 2013 – Also this year Arte Laguna Prize gives the opportunity to 8 artists to meet different cultures thanks to the Special Prizes “Artist-in-Residence”.
During the residencies, which will all take place during the year, the artists will create new works that will be exhibited on the occasion of the final open day.

For the seventh edition, the art residencies will take place in Mumbai, Venice, Ptuj (Slovenia), Basel, Vicenza, and from this year also in Beijing.

MUMBAI
one-month art residency for one artist + final exhibition at Sakshi Gallery in Mumbai
Winner: Carlos Cartama
Reason

“The art residency in India supported by Technymon company has been awarded to Carlos Cartama because his highly interesting research on the architectural and urban space is combined, from a formal point of view, with a skillful and refined use of the technique of graphite on paper”.

VENICE – Glass School "Abate Zanetti"
one-month art residency for one artist + realization of a project with glass master Giancarlo Signoretto + open day
Winner: Ana Roda
Reason

“Glass School Abate Zanetti has awarded Ana Roda for the versatility of her project, because the latter demonstrates an interest in the three main techniques of glass working: glass fusing, lamp-working and furnace. During the residency the artist will have the chance to deepen her knowledge of these techniques, receiving new stimuli and impulses for her research”.

PTUJ (Slovenia) – Art Stays (International Festival of Contemporary Art)
art residency of 7 days for one artist + final exhibition
Winner: Olga Lah
Reason

“ART STAYS has decided to award the young American artist Olga Lah for the immediate enthusiasm and interest aroused by the simplicity of her articulated sculptures and installations. We are really glad to host and present a new large-size site-specific work featuring the shapes, colours and visual elements the artist will look for and create with simple materials (perhaps “stolen” from the Slovenian tradition itself), by creating spaces and new shapes for a public area in the city during the 11th edition of the Festival”.

BASEL– iaab (study programme that welcomes every year 15 artists from all over the world)
3-months art residency for one atist + final open day
Winner: Ilia Yefimovich
Reason

“Yefimovich's strong documentary work is nourished by a constant and subliminal sense of menace that can be perceived even in the festive and apparently harmless photo of an empty theatre. iaab would like to support this impressive young photographer and give him the opportunity to sharpen his eye in an artful and seemingly peaceful surrounding”.

BEIJING – in collaboration with Lab Yit | Platform for contemporary art in Cina
one-month art residency for one artist + final exhibition
Winner: Federica Cogo
Reason

“For being able to integrate in her project the ancient Chinese tradition of carved paper with a contemporary artistic research” .

VICENZA – Loft Miramarmi
one-month art residency for 2 artists+ realization of a project + open day
Winners: Silvia Calcagno | Boris Chouvellon
Reason

“Miramarmi has decided to award Silvia Calcagno and Boris Chouvellon because in both cases the artistic research is open to experimentation and flexible in the use of different materials. The two artists also deal with the physical dimension of space in an unusually complementary manner”.
