The art residency at Miramarmi, Vicenza

On Friday, September 27 at 7:00 pm Arte Laguna Prize presents the works by Silvia Celeste Calcagno and Boris Chouvellon, winners of the art residency that was awarded in March 2013 during the seventh edition of the Prize. These new works have been created in marble, a material the artists have experienced for the first time during their stay at company Miramarmi in Vicenza.

The event will take place at the Loft Gallery, the first industrial space of the company that has been entirely renovated and dedicated to art, in order to experience the contamination between art and business: a solid instance of the concept of business for art and art for business that Arte Laguna Prize has been supporting from the start.
For French artist Boris Chouvellon, this art residency has been an educational experience provided by the combination of production and post-work reflection. For this residency he has revisited his projects, changing their size scale. His residency in Italy has enriched his visual world as well as the peripheral and industrial areas his work is based on.
Silvia Celeste Calcagno says of her stay at the Loft: "It is as if I have written a new chapter of a book. This chapter is about a brand new experience which has been so enriching and which has proven that there are no restrictions when an idea is strongly felt, precise, when it works. I always start from a work where the concept melts with a strong project, leaving little room for chance. The residency has provided me with new tools to face the unexpected that during the work in progress with a material that was completely new to me".
Entries are currently open to the eight edition of Arte Laguna Prize 2013-2014, closing on October 30th. This year as well the prizes include art residencies that enable artists to make a new experience of professional growth and production out of the ordinary artist's studio. Every experience has been unique and experimenting with materials has been the most fascinating side.
In the last three years the Prize has worked with ceramics, glass, marble, and from this year also with bronze, creating different projects in synergy with creative realities such as Carlo Zauli Museum in Faenza, Glass School Abate Zanetti in Murano, the Company Miramarmi and the artistic Foundry Bataglia in Milan.

Artists have been working on their projects since September 2nd.

Silvia Celeste Calcagno: born in Genoa in 1974, reference gallery PH Neutro Fotografia Fine-art (Verona and Pietrasanta)
In her work she "uses" herself as the subject, not out of a narcissistic pleasure in enlarging her ego, but rather in order to better control and direct the actions she enacts. Her works represent emotional conditions, where presence is given by absence, the void can be found in what is full and life alternates with a deep sense of death. It is the rule of opposites.
Boris Chouvellon: born in France in 1980
His work investigates the urban space and its peripheries, both territorial and social, and it reproduces the modern ruins, where abandonment and oblivion are the protagonists
