Galeria Fernando Santos in Porto, Portugal, inaugurates the personal exhibition "Signs and Wonders" of Alicia Eggert, winner of the "Artist in Gallery" prize of the 10th Arte Laguna Prize. "Signs and Wonders" is the first personal exhibition of Alicia Eggert in Portugal and interdisciplinary works, new and recent, are exhbited. In particular it's possible to see the lenticular prints that moves by showing two different statements with the intent to prompt people into a reflective and philosophical inquiry.
The exhibition derives its title from the artist’s upbringing as
the daughter of a Pentecostal Christian
minister. “Unless you see signs and
wonders,” Jesus said in John 4:48, “you
will never believe.” Eggert, who as an
adult has become an atheist, does not
believe. But she has come to realize
that art, religion and science - which are
often opposing - have something really
important in common: wonder. Wonder
is both cognitive and spiritual. It’s the
curiosity that drives us to learn new things
about ourselves and the world around
us, but it’s also the feeling we get when
we encounter things that are beyond our
understanding.
Alicia Eggert was born in New Jersey, United States in 1981. She is an interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses on the relationship between language, image and time. Alicia is the recipient of numerous honors and awards and her artworks have been exhibited at notable institutions nationally and internationally.
