We are all imprisoned in a zoo, living a restricted life. Society is a cage, and we are staring with a smile at other encaged.

In this way Chou Ching-Hui, winner artist of the Special Prize "Artist in Gallery" for the 11th Arte Laguna Prize, presents his personal exhibition "Animal Farm" which will be on display at Chelouche Gallery in Tel Aviv (Israel), from 7th September to 14th October 2017.

Animal Farm is a five-year-long photography project in which the artist Chou, from Taiwan, turns to zoos to create theatrical sets where the actors played their assigned roles as photos were taken at dawn and dusk. Zoo, a space full of imagination and conflict, symbolizes joy (for visitors), but also confinement and segregation (for animals). By so doing, Chou inserted surreal theatrical scenes and lifelike vernacular spaces into artificial enclosures in which wild animals were brought together and domesticated. The home now looked like a cage, while the border between manmade interiors and the wilderness became blurred.

Established by Nira Itzhaki in 1985, Chelouche Gallery is now one of the most prominent and leading galleries in Israel. It promotes an international and local exhibition program in collaboration with curators and artists from Israel and abroad, placing itself one step ahead in the Israeli contemporary art scene. For the 2017, Chelouche Gallery collaborates with Arte Laguna Prize for "Artist in Gallery" program.
